Landmarks - Churches

St. Joseph Catholic Church

Churches played a vital role in the lives of the early German settlers in St. Louis.

The settlers’ social, spiritual, and educational activities often revolved around the parish church. Here the settlers and their families could meet with other Germans having similar backgrounds and values to share the joys of their new lives and find support to meet the daily challenges.

Visitors to the landmark places of worship can see where early Catholics, Lutherans, FreeThinkers and other congregations met.
