Busch Stadium

Stadium Plaza (250)

Named in honor of the Busch family, Busch Stadium is the home of the St. Louis Baseball Cardinals.

The Stadium, designed by architect Edward Durrell Stone, opened with a night game on Mary 12, 1966. Seating 55,000 persons, the stadium was owned by the Civic Center Corporation, a company belonging to the Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association until 1996 when the stadium and the team were sold by Anheuser-Busch to a group led by William O. DeWitt, Jr.

August A. Busch, Jr. (1899-1989), chairman of Anheuser-Busch, was president of the baseball Cardinals. His efforts in building the new stadium were part of St. Louis 1960’s redevelopment of the downtown area.
