The St. Louis Public Library has the 1930
Census for Missouri and Illinois on microfilm. Census records can be located using
the address of the individual or household to identify an enumeration district. From the
enumeration district, it is possible to identify the microfilm reel that contains the
census information for that individual or household.
| To use the 1930 Enumeration
District map for the City of St. Louis:
1. Find the number and street for the individual or household;
Searchers can look up names up in city directories to get these
addresses. St. Louis Public Library has city directories for St. Louis, St. Louis County,
as well as for many Illinois towns located in St. Clair or Madison County, Illinois.
Street listings appear at the bottom of the map. A block in St. Louis is
usually equal to 100. Odd numbered addresses are usually on the north or west side
of the street, even numbered addresses are on the south or east side of a street.

Addresses beginning with "North" or "South" are located north or south
of Market Street.
2. Identify the enumeration district (ED) number for that
address by;
- Using the map; the EDs are the red two or three digit uncircled
numbers, Circled numbers show city wards
OR
3. Go to the 1930 Missouri
Census Guide to see which reel of microfilm will contain records for that individual
or household;
Enumeration Districts prefixes:
St. Louis City - 96
St. Louis County - 95
Madison County - 80
St. Clair County - 82
4. Bring that information to the St. Louis Public Librarys
