Landmarks - Carondelet

Jacob Steins House

Many of St. Louis’ first German immigrants called Carondelet home.

These early settlers found the area offered beautiful views of the Mississippi River.  They settled in Carondelet, building stone houses for their families and starting small factories and businesses.

Landmarks related to early German-American life in St. Louis can still be seen in the Carondelet area today.  Don't miss examples of early homes, businesses, churches, and one of the first kindergartens.
