Named in honor of the Busch family, Busch Stadium is the home of the St. Louis Baseball Cardinals.
The Stadium, designed by architect Edward Durrell Stone, opened with a night game on Mary 12, 1966. Seating 55,000 persons, the stadium was owned by the Civic Center Corporation, a company belonging to the Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association until 1996 when the stadium and the team were sold by Anheuser-Busch to a group led by William O. DeWitt, Jr.
August A. Busch, Jr. (1899-1989), chairman of Anheuser-Busch, was president of the baseball Cardinals. His efforts in building the new stadium were part of St. Louis 1960’s redevelopment of the downtown area. |
