On January 10, 1899 ninety delegates representing the states and territories of the Louisiana Purchase met in St. Louis. From this meeting would come the ideas and spirit that framed the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, the 1904 World's Fair.
Fair President David R. Francis, along with Isaac S. Taylor (Director of Works) and F. J. V. Skiff (Director of Exhibits), used their talents and enthusiasm to make the Fair a reality. Other business men and women, architects, vendors, political figures and craftsmen assisted them. It took thousands of people from all walks of life to successfully meet the goal of making the Fair a spectacular success.
