Exhibit Overview Between 1823 and the present, citizens of the City of St. Louis have elected 45 men to serve as mayor. The "St. Louis Mayors" exhibit provides a brief biography and photograph of these men highlighting the contributions they made to the City's growth and development. Information about mayors William Carr Lane (Mayor 1823-1829 and 1837-1840) through Alfonso J. Cervantes (1965-1973) is taken from the St. Louis Public Librarys publication "St. Louis Mayors Brief Biographies" by Charles H. Cornwell (published in 1965). Information about mayors who served the City from after 1965 was gathered through interviews and other library sources. Photographs of the mayors are from collections housed at the Mayors Office (City of St. Louis) or St. Louis Public Library.
